Still one of the best places in Chicago to listen to live acoustic music! Last Tuesday night I went out to hear some good friends of mine play there - and they put together an amazing show! It was the perfect way to spend a Tuesday night right before Thanksgiving. :)

Emmaus Fall Event

Well this is a bit old now — but a week ago Friday I helped out with the Emmaus Fall Event. That’s one of my roommates Isiah next to me - we’re filling little containers with sugar and creamer for coffee so we can put them on all the tables. The whole event came off great though; the Chicago Tabernacle Choir did a concert and there were some amazing stories from a few different speakers. They also showed us a new promotional video that they’d just finished making which was very powerful — they actually went in and interviewed a lot of the clients and put them right into the video. I spent most of the night serving tables. :)

Hacking Globus

Well my first week at IT Convergence has been great, albeit insanely busy! Woke up around five every morning in order to beat the rush for my drive out to Naperville. Also did a late night or two; it’s been pretty insane!

So today I finally got a bit of a break from Oracle… but not from computers. Met up with Rob from the BioGrid research group at DePaul and we just now finished spending five and a half hours getting globus setup for DePaul’s cluster. Did the whole thing at this amazing coffeeshop in my neighborhood called the Dollop. Definitely a five-star location for computer hacking.

Gospel Concert

UBC put together a great show Sunday night as a fundraiser to raise money towards finishing the bathroom renovations in the women’s shelter downstairs. Then afterwards, Joel and Mandie dropped by for a game of foosball and were joined by my neighbor Jeremiah. Mandie and I got beat twice by Jeremiah and Joel… but we definitely gave them a run for their money! Oh - and Aris DJ’d our foosball game. His mix was pretty amazing; we told him that he should definitely consider a career as a foosball DJ.

The headliner at Buddy Guy’s on Saturday. These guys were amazing as both musicians and entertainers. There was a perfect balance of leads and follows so I was dancing almost every song - and was totally wiped out by the end of the night! What an awesome Saturday night!

Bryan and I stayed at the Mill until the band quit around 1am. Then as we were walking back to my place we passed the Kinetic Playground and couldn’t help noticing some great blues coming from the bar. I’ve been curious about this place forever - so we popped out heads in. Next thing you know it’s an hour later and we’re heading home again! This girl is an absolutely amazing blues guitarist - I was blown away.

Shazam, thursday night at the Green Mill. :) I was riding the fence… I’ve got so much to do… I’m getting behind… can’t go out. But I caved in. Brandon and Wendy stopped over before Aris joined them to walk over… and next thing you know, there I am walking over too. Bryan from Lansing stopped over too - he needed to go to the Chinese consulate Friday and crashed at my place Thursday night. However there was unfortunately a dearth of follows… but I still got a few songs in and had an amazing time listening!

Sophie Driving My Truck

After spending all Saturday at the TFC concert in Port Huron, I then went to Dan’s church Sunday morning where my brother John and I helped with the music. Then my dad and I packed all the rest of my stuff into my truck (things I’d been storing at my parents place just because I didn’t have a place to store them in Chicago) and I drove back to Chicago just in time for dinner at Sabrina’s Sunday night! (And dinner was AWESOME.) About 13 of us showed up and we planned out what we’re going to do on Sunday nights for the next few months, and then played some board games.

When I walked out to my truck to leave my parents place, Sophie totally surprised me - I almost didn’t see her until I started sitting down! Guess she wanted to come back to Chicago with me. :)

TFC Bus Ride

Spent the weekend in Michigan! Went home Thursday afternoon, Friday I slept in, had lunch with Bruce Jeffries (a guy I really look up to), then visited old coworkers and went with John to buy a new computer with money he’d saved up. (He got a really nice HP laptop.) Closed out Friday night with some live Jazz at a local coffeeshop. Saturday we spent the day at a TFC concert! Mom and Dad are both staff with TFC’s. Snapped this pic while we were at the second bus pick-up, the Perry Burger King.
